An ordinary document viewer is designed to present a readable page or workbook, not inventory every stored object. A deeper inspection can compare visible content with extracted text and report metadata, comments, tracked changes, hidden formatting, worksheet visibility, links, attachments, and unusual Unicode characters.
The useful checks depend on the format. PDF inspection considers page geometry, rendering, OCR layers, annotations, and attachments. DOCX and XLSX inspection examines the structured package, properties, relationships, revisions, and hidden document or workbook elements.
How it differs from antivirus software
Antivirus software primarily looks for malicious code and known or suspicious threat behavior. A file content inspector instead helps explain document content and structure, including ordinary editing residue and accessibility features that are not malware.
The two tools can complement each other, but neither replaces the other. Do not open an untrusted file merely because a content scan completed, and follow your organization's security process for suspicious files.
A careful inspection workflow
Preserve the unchanged original and note where it came from. Review the visible document in the application that normally opens it, then inspect a copy for hidden structure, properties, comments, revisions, links, and attachments.
Use automated findings as a checklist for manual verification. Compare important evidence in the original application, keep relevant page or location details, and ask a knowledgeable person for help when the consequence of a mistake is high.

Hidden Word Scanner accepts supported PDF, DOCX, XLSX, and plain-text files. The upload is deleted immediately after scanning, and the temporary report expires automatically after 15 minutes. Optional PDF page previews require a separate choice and expire with the report.
